Delete to the Left. Delete to the Right.
There are two delete keys on most keyboards. One deletes to the left and one to the right.
On some keyboards the keys are named backspace and delete.
The backspace key deletes letters to the left of the blinking cursor, and the delete key will delete letters to the right. Sometimes you’ll see them both named “delete”.
If you think of the vertical open area on the keyboard as a cursor, you’ll always remember which way it goes. So now you don’t have to use your arrow keys to move to the end of a word to delete.
InDesign deleting Tips:
Hold the Command (mac) or CTRL (win) key as you hit the backspace or delete key. You will delete one word instead of a single letter at a time.
If you double click on a single word in InDesign, notice that the spaces on either side are NOT selected, only the word. When you hit either delete keys, to delete the word, those two unselected spaces will actually merge together and you’ll be left with one space.
If you type in a new word instead, the spaces will remain.
